The emphasis in this course is on language skills. Students are encouraged to use relevant vocabulary, correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, and to demonstrate a sense of style and an awareness of audience in their use of language.

SV GCSE English Course enables students to:

Cambridge English First Revision Course
ESL Eschool gives students the opportunity to try out courses. This course is Cambridge English First (formally FCE) Revision Course.
You will improve your general English writing and listening communication as well as exam techniques, vocabulary, grammar and skills relevant to the First.

What to expect:
  • Expand vocabulary areas suitable for general topics & for the specific exam 
  • Work on grammatical accuracy 
  • Practise past exam papers: reading, writing & listening 
  • Marked Written Task


You can expect some great reads, great debates and fabulous creativity this year.

You can also expect it to be different to GCSE.

Contact time in lessons is just part of the learning process at this level. You need to supplement this with your own time.

There is an expectation that you will use your study periods to work independently. We also expect you to work at home.

We expect three hours of personal study as a minimum each week for English alone.

This course is designed to improve students' conversation skills in a scientific- or engineering-oriented setting. Grammar, writing styles and speaking skills specific to students' scientific and engineering areas of interest will be the focus of this course and will be accomplished through discussions of various authentic technical-based texts.

Students will read the book Tuck Everlasting.  While reading the book, students will participate in 7 literacy circle events. Students will pose questions for discussion and answer 2 other questions posed. 

The Lakes Poets

An introductory module to the study of Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey, commonly known as the Lakes Poets.

The three main figures of what has become known as the Lakes School were William WordsworthSamuel Taylor Coleridge, and Robert Southey.  Chinese Characters intensive Reading 中级A精度

This course is based on the Shenzhen University Intermediate A Intensive Reading Book. The book spans twelve chapters, with each chapter providing and average of forty new words and two readings taken from the Chinese Readers Digest.

Suggested requirements for taking the course:

  • Knowledge of simple characters and their meanings
  • Simple grammar structures
  • A year worth of studying Chinese Characters
